Lumi is an AI tool in MyFIRE that allows instructors to
create content for assignments, discussions, and quizzes. For quizzes, Lumi
will generate questions based on course content or custom text. Multiple
Choice, True or False, Written Response, Short Answer, and Multi-Select
question types are all supported. When generating multiple questions, results
may vary based on the amount of source material. This tutorial demonstrates how
to generate quiz questions with the Lumi tool.
1. Navigate to your course in MyFIRE.
2. Select Instructor Tools in the navigation bar.
3. Select Course Admin.
4. Select Quizzes.
5. Select Question Library. Lumi can only be used
to generate quiz questions from the question library, and cannot be used when
creating a quiz. Once questions have been generated in the question library,
they are able to be added to quizzes.
6. Select Generate Questions.
7. A pop-up window will appear. Decide if you would
like to generate quiz questions from course content, or if you would like to
enter your own custom text. Questions will be based on the first 8,000
characters in the selected page; consider using the custom source text option
for any remaining characters over the limit.
a. If Course Content is selected, select Select
Content.
i. A pop-up window will appear. Locate and select
the section of the course you would like the quiz questions to be generated
from. Only one item from a module is able to be selected at a time. To generate
multiple quiz questions based on multiple content items or modules, this
process will need to be completed multiple times.
b. If Custom Text is selected, enter your text into
the textbox that appears. There is a limit of 8,000 characters.
8. Decide the number of questions you would like
generated, 1 through 10.
9. Select the Question Type you would like
generated. Options include Multiple Choice, True or False, Written Response,
Short Answer, and Multi-select. If you would like a variety of question types
generated, you will need to complete this process multiple times.
10. If
desired, select a level from the Bloom’s Taxonomy drop-down menu. The options
include: Evaluate, Analyze, Apply, Understand, and Remember. For more
information on Bloom’s Taxonomy, view this tutorial.
11. Select Generate.
12. A
loading page will appear indicating that quiz questions are being generated.
This may take a few minutes.
13. When
the page refreshes, the generated questions will appear.
14. Each
question needs to be reviewed for quality and accuracy before it is able to be
saved and added to the question library. Select a question to review it.
15. A
pop-up window will appear. Review and make any necessary changes to the quiz
question.
16. Select Options to Add Feedback, Add Hint, Add Short Description, Add Custom Weights,
or Add Enumeration.
17. Edit
the default points if desired.
18. Rate
the question quality if desired.
19. If
you would like to keep this question and add it to the question library, select Keep and Next. You will be taken to the next question to review.
20. If
you do not wish to keep the question, select Discard and Next. You will be
taken to the next question to review.
21. To
navigate back to the previous page, select Close This Question.
22. Once
you have reviewed all of the questions, select Keep and Finish or Update and
Finish if questions have been edited.
23. Icons
will appear next to each question indicating that they have been reviewed or
edited.
24. To
delete a question, select the trash can icon.
25. To
view the source material that the questions were generated from, select View
Source Page.
26. Once
finished, select Save to Section to add the questions to the question library. Generated
questions will be saved in the Question Library. You can review and edit them
at any time. Questions will be tagged as generated with AI. Learners will not
see that questions were AI-assisted unless you choose to communicate this to them.
27. Decide
if you would like to save the questions to the current section of the question
library or if you would like to create a new section.
a. If Create New Section is selected, enter a title for the section.
28. Select Save to save the questions, or select Return to Question Review or Cancel and
Discard Questions if desired.
29. The
page will refresh to show the newly created questions.
