Occasionally,
there may be a circumstance where deleting a group category and activity is
necessary. This tutorial demonstrates how to delete a group category and
activity within a course.
1. Access
the desired course in MyFIRE.
2. From
the navigation bar, select the user tools tab
3. A
drop-down menu will appear. Select groups.
4. When
the page refreshes, locate the desired category by selecting the view
categories drop-down menu. Ensure the correct category is selected and the
title is visible in the menu.
a. If by chance there are
multiple group categories with the same title, users can determine which group
is the correct category by viewing if the group category is connected to
specified assignments or discussions by viewing the assignments and
discussions categories and selecting the hyperlinked number.
b. A pop-up window will
appear listing the exact assignments or discussions that are connected
and associated with the group category. If needed, use the scrollbar to view
all of the associated activities.
c. Once done viewing the
associated assignments or discussions, select close at the bottom of the
pop-up window.
5. Once
the correct group category is located, select the drop-down arrow to the
right of the category title.
6. A
drop-down menu will appear. Select delete.
7. A
pop-up window will appear with a confirmation message asking you to confirm if
you would like to proceed with deleting the group category AND any connected
assignments or discussions, including a count of how many assignments or
discussions are being deleted. This means that if you proceed, you will need to
recreate the assignment or discussion again if the students still need to
complete the activity in the course. If you are sure that you would like to
delete the groups and the group activities, select delete category.
8. A
message will appear at the bottom of the screen to confirm that the group
category has been deleted.
