The Import/Export/Copy Components tool provides a quick way to search for courses and copy content from one course to another within MyFIRE. Instructors will only be able to copy course content from courses that they are assigned as a traditional or editing instructor. This tutorial demonstrates how to copy selected content items between course sections in MyFIRE.

·      Copying select components will help instructors to not copy over the Student Acknowledgement and Attendance Confirmation survey and the Course Evaluation survey to the new course section since the most up-to-date Student Acknowledgement and Course Evaluation will already be populated by the Instructional Design & Technology department.

·      Any content that is copied over will appear below already existing content in the course.

·      If the previous course content includes integrated material, such as McGraw-Hill, Pearson Cengage, or Achieve, please contact idtsupport@seu.edu to ensure that the content has been properly migrated and connected.

1.        Locate the course that should receive the content.

2.        Once within the receiving course, select Instructor Tools from the navigation bar at the top of the page.

3.        Select Course Admin from the drop down menu.

4.        When the page refreshes, select the Import/Export/Copy Components category from under the Tools area.

5.        Select Copy Components from another Org Unit.

6.        Then select Search for Offering.

7.        Search for the course that contains the content that should be copied over by typing the course code in the search bar and selecting enter or search.

8.        From the results list, select the desired course to copy by selecting the circle to the left of the course title.

9.        Then select Add Selected.

10.  Next, at the bottom of the page, choose select components to copy only selected items from the chosen course. Choosing to copy select components is the recommended option by ID&T to copy over content from another course section.

11.  When the page refreshes, choose the components of the course that should be copied. Options include copying all, none, or some of the components for each category by selecting the checkbox next to the desired categories.

All courses will have the Student Acknowledgement and Attendance Confirmation & Course Evaluation surveys already copied in your course for you. We recommend not including the Student Acknowledgement survey and Course Evaluation survey when choosing which components to copy into your new course. If they are selected, then the Student Acknowledgement and Course Evaluation surveys will be doubled in the new course.

Also, keep the checkbox selected for ‘Include Associated Files’ when the option is presented for the items listed below. It is selected by default. Deselecting the checkbox will cause files not to be copied over to the new section.

The options will include the following (if created in the previous course):

a.        Attendance Registers

b.        Calendar events

c.        Checklists

d.        Content (The material that has been created on the content tab).

                                                                                             i.         Choose Select Individual Items to Copy to exclude the Student Acknowledgement and Course Evaluation surveys on the content page.

e.        External Learning Tool Links - If the previous course content includes integrated material, such as McGraw-Hill, Pearson, Achieve, or Cengage, please contact idtsupport@seu.edu to ensure that the content has been properly migrated and connected.

f.           Content Display Settings

g.         Course Files (files that have been added to the course)

h.        Discussions (discussion forums and topics)

i.            Assignments

j.            Grades (gradebook categories and grade items)

k.         Grade Settings (weights, points, grade scheme, student view settings, and other grade settings)

l.           Groups

m.    Intelligent Agents (automated emails)

n.        Announcements

o.        Question Library (questions that are housed within the question library within the Quizzes tool)

p.        Quizzes

q.        Release Conditions (prerequisite conditions)

r.           Rubrics

s.         Self Assessments (practice quizzes)

t.           Course Appearance (Image and Banner Text)

u.        Surveys

                                                                                             i.         For surveys, choose Select Individual Items to Copy to exclude the Student Acknowledgement & Course Eval surveys from being copied over.

12.  Once done selecting the items that need to be copied to the new course, select Continue at the bottom of the page.

13.  When the page refreshes, you will be prompted to select the individual items that you would like to copy forward in each category that you have chosen to ‘Select Individual Items to Copy.’ If you have chosen this option for multiple categories, each category will show on its own page.

a.        If you would like to select individual content items from within each category (e.g. Content Modules and Topics, Assignments, Quizzes, Discussions,  or the Grades Items or Categories), select the gray plus icon to the left of each category or by selecting expand all.

                                                                                             i.         If there are any items nested within the categories, select which individual items to copy over by selecting the checkbox to the left of the desired item(s).

b.        For Content Modules and Topics, Grades Items or Categories, and Surveys pages, you will need to exclude the Student Acknowledgement and Attendance Confirmation survey from the selected material by not selecting the Student Acknowledgement survey checkbox. ID&T will add the most-up-to-date survey to your new course on your behalf.

Note: Please do not copy over any Student Acknowledgement Quizzes from past courses. The quiz version of the Student Acknowledgement is outdated.

14.  Select Continue when finished choosing which individual items that need to be copied forward in each category.

15.  The next page (Select Course Material) will allow you to review and confirm which course material to copy. The individual items that you have selected on the previous pages, will be listed for review and to modify if changes are needed.

16.  Also, on the Select Course Material page, you will have the option to Offset Dates. This option will allow you to change the dates in the content that is being copied forward by a designated date and range in bulk. If you would like to utilize this tool, select the checkbox for Offset all dates of copied components.

There are two options to offset the dates by:

a.        Offset by Direction and Range

                                                                                             i.         Choose the direction (forward or backward) for the days and hours of the dates by selecting the direction drop-down menu for each field.

ii.         Choose the range for the days and hours of the dates by entering the number of days or hours that the dates need to be changed forward or backward in the calendar.

b.        Calculate range between two dates - this option will allow you to calculate the range if you are unsure of the number of days and hours that you would like to offset the dates.

                                                                                             i.         Enter the From & To date and time.

ii.         Once the dates are selected, a message will appear below the date fields to show how many day(s) the dates will be offset by. The message will read: “Dates will be offset forward by X day(s).”

17.  Once finished reviewing that material to be copied and offsetting the dates if desired, select Finish at the bottom of the page.

18.  The next page will show the copy in progress. A progress bar will be visible and will change to a green check once the copy has been completed.

19.  After the content has been uploaded successfully, select View Content at the bottom of the page to review all of the content that was copied over.

20.  Select Review and Manage Dates at the bottom of the page to review and edit all of the due dates, start dates, and end dates in the course.
