The Accommodations tool provides instructors with a quick
way to grant students accommodations on all the quizzes in a course with a
single setting change. This feature is in addition to the Special Access tool. The
Accommodation tool only works with an Enforced Time limit. It does not work
with Recommended time limit. Please keep track of who you grant accommodations
to within your course(s). This tutorial demonstrates how to add accommodations
on quizzes in MyFIRE
1. Navigate to the desired course in MyFIRE.
2. Select the Course Tools at the top of the page
in the navigation bar.
3. Once the drop menu appears, Select Classlist.
4. From the class list, locate the desired student
by scrolling down the page or entering their name in the search bar.
5. Once the student has been located, select the
drop-down arrow to the right of the student’s name.
6. A drop-down menu will appear. Select Edit Accommodations.
7. A pop-up window will appear. Choose if the
timing for quizzes needs to be adjusted for the specified student. If the time
needs to be adjusted, select the modify time limit checkbox.
a. If modifying the time limit, choose how the time
limit should be adjusted by selecting either multiplier of original quiz time
or extra time.
i. Multiplier of Original Quiz Time: This option
multiplies the total enforced time limit for each quiz by the entered value.
For example, a quiz that has an enforced time limit of 20 minutes is multiplied
by 1.5 will result in an accommodation of 30 minutes granted.
ii. Extra Time: This option will add the entered minute value to the enforced time limit
of each quiz in the course. For example, a quiz that has an enforced time limit
of 20 minutes with 20 minutes added will result in an accommodation of 40
minutes granted.
8. Choose if 'always allow right click' should be
enabled. If enabling this option, select the Always Allow Right Click checkbox.
Right click includes the ability to copy, save as, search the web, printing,
back, forward, reload, translate, viewing the web page code source, and connect
page contents to browser extensions. Note: We do not recommend enabling Always
Allow Right Click unless the student’s accommodations necessitate this feature
being turned on.
9. Once finished selecting the desired settings,
select Save at the bottom of the pop-up window.
10. Once
the accommodation has been saved, you will be able to view which student(s)
have an accommodation in the classlist by the accommodation icon that is
visible to the right of the students’ name.
11. Also,
once the accommodation has been enabled, students will be able to view the
accommodation icon to the right of their own name to indicate that they have an
accommodation.
a. Students will not be able to view if other
students have accommodations.
b. The accommodation icon also appears in the User
Progress tool on the Quiz tab if a student has a quiz accommodation in a
course.
c. When commencing a quiz, the accommodation icon
appears next to a student’s quiz time to indicate that their accommodation has
been applied. Note: If a student’s time accommodation has been overridden by a
quiz-specific special access, the accommodations icon does not appear.
