MyFIRE allows instructors to preview courses as a student would experience a course, with a few exceptions. The benefits of viewing a course as a student are that instructors will be able to review course content placement and test release conditions. Instructors will not be able to view content that has restrictions or release conditions unless the release conditions were attempted during the preview session. Instructors will not be able to view individual grades, quiz attempts, or any content for a specific student. This tutorial demonstrates how to view a course as a student within MyFIRE.

1.        Locate and access the desired course in MyFIRE.

2.        At the top right-hand corner of the screen, select your name or profile picture.

                                                                                             i.         Learner (Enroll) - This role is given to students once they have enrolled in a course. They are not able to access the course content with this role.

ii.         Learner (Access) - At one week prior to the start of the course, students’ roles change to a learner (access) role. This role provides access to the course content, and students are able to actively engage in the course.

iii.         Learner (Withdrawn) - If a student withdrawals from a course, their name will still show in the classlist. However, their role will be listed as a learner (withdrawn). These students will no longer have access to the course content and will not appear in the course gradebook.

iv.         Learner (Extended) - If a student is granted an incomplete grade in JICS, then 30 days after the end of the course, the student’s role will change to a learner (extended) role. These students have access to the course content.

4.        The page will refresh to show the course from the student view. However, the student view is a general view and is not specific to any student. When previewing the course as a student or another role, your profile picture and name will change.
