In order for students to view their quiz or exam grades in
the gradebook, the quiz must be linked to the gradebook. The linking to the
gradebook is known as ‘associating’ to a grade item. This tutorial shows how to
associate a quiz to a grade item in the gradebook.
1. In the desired course, select the Instructor Tools tab at the top of the page in the navigation bar.
2. Then select Course Admin.
3. Locate and select Quizzes.
4. Select the drop-down arrow next to the quiz that you would
like to publish to the gradebook and select Edit.
5. When the page refreshes, select the drop-down arrow next to where it says “Not in Grade Book.”
6. Select Edit or Link to Existing. This option will
allow you to select a grade item in the gradebook that has already been
created.
a. To associate the quiz with
an existing grade item, select Link to Existing Grade Item in the pop-up
window.
i. In the drop-down menu,
select the desired grade item. Note: Only grade items not yet
associated with an assignment, discussion, or quiz will appear in the drop-down
menu.
ii. Then select OK.
b. If there is no grade item
created for the quiz in the gradebook, select Create and link to a new grade
item. The grade item will automatically be named to match the quiz title.
i. To choose a gradebook
category for the new grade item, select Choose Grade Category.
ii. Then select the desired
gradebook category from the drop-down menu.
iii. To change the grade type
(e.g. Numeric, Selectbox) or grade scheme (e.g. letter grade, percentage),
select Choose Grade Scheme.

grade scheme in the drop-down menu.
v. Then select OK.
7. Select Save and Close at the bottom of the
page.
